Making Tax Digital (MTD) – HMRC Chief Executive Edward Troup visiting Cardiff City Region Feb 2017

13.12.2016

The planned roll out of HMRC’s Digital agenda, which will include the management of VAT information, is an aspect on which we have commented in the past. Through our links with the South Wales Chamber (where Liz Maher one of our Directors currently holds the role of Chamber President) we are delighted to announce that the Permanent Secretary of HMRC, Edward Troup, is expected to join in a round table discussion with local businesses on the 3 February 2017.

The venue will be the Cardiff offices of Broomfield & Alexander and whilst the audience will be limited if you have any issues that you would like to see us raise with Mr Troup then please do let us know.

We have a range of concerns already, some of which coincide with comments from the Public Accounts Committee in Westminster this week, on the seeming lack of any contingency plan for HMRC’s IT systems should the roll out commence in 2018 as suggested. Any agent currently trying to submit VAT information at month ends will already be familiar with the regular systems shut downs due to overload. Not a comforting fact as the MTD plans move ahead.
